Course starts at 0900Hrs prompt. Bring suitable outdoor kit. Cost of the day £40 - includes tea and coffee and a packed lunch. This one day practical course will explore a stepped approach to teaching navigation to trainee leaders on Mountain Training courses such as lowland Leader award, Hill and Moorland Leader and Mountain Leader. The course is ran by Nigel Williams who is the Head of Training at Glenmore lodge. Nigel is also as an MIC, ML course director and level 3 orienteering coach and has a vast experience of teaching navigation. This course which will explore along the lines of the orienteering step system which provides a simple progression model but re-titled, with phrases about speed removed and references to other maps, technology and environmental conditions added. This course will help create a clearer picture with the potential to provide guidance as to what is relevant to each of our awards similar to the technical difficulty (TD) categories that exist in orienteering coaching.
