3. Teaching climbing movement
Thursday morning workshop
Workshop Description
Teaching climbing movement is an essential skill for all climbing instructors and coaches to be able to inspire, enable and motivate participants. How this is done needs to vary to suit the participants. In this workshop we will explore how the instructor ‘day job’ needs to be very creative to keep it alive.
Although the fundamentals of climbing movement can be explained, demonstrated and practiced through exercises and drills this will not hold the attention of many participants for long, particularly young people who constitute 80% of the work audience. We will introduce creative warm-ups, gamification, complimentary sport exercises, challenges, competitive games, adaptation of the climbing surface, teaching props, ABC exercises and others - to keep participants learning through doing, whilst having fun and engaging the brain. Bring your favourite ideas along to share.
Equipment
