Auditing Safety Management Good Practice in delivering activities at a crag and/or mountain environment and steps to attaining the Adventuremark Accreditation through Mountain Training's approved scheme.
The workshop will review good practice when developing the safety management systems when delivering courses on crag and in the mountains within the scope of the MT Awards. This will include:
Whether you are a sole trader and want to make sure you have everything in place that you need from a safety management perspective, or you work for a centre or organisation where you have a responisibility for risk assessments and safety management procudures, this workshop will walk you through all the aspects with practical examples.
Introduction to Adventuremark
Adventuremark https://www.adventuremark.co.uk/ is a non-statutory safety scheme devised by the Adventure Activity Industry Advisory Committee (AAIAC) https://www.aaiac.org/ for Providers of adventurous activities that are outside the scope of the Adventure Activity Licensing regulations. Adventuremark allows providers to demonstrate to their customers or users that their Provider's Safety Management and related delivery systems have been independently audited and inspected and found to comply with standards of good practice in the adventure activity industry.
Mountain Training UKI is an AAIAC Approved Scheme Provider and offers accreditation against the Adventuremark criteria. The MTUKI Approved Activity Provider Scheme is designed to support a sole provider of mountain activities delivered within the scope of the Awards they hold. This does not include other activities outside the scope of these Awards or enterprises with more complex delivery systems that require greater day to day management, which is covered by direct entry into the Adventuremark Scheme A sole trader who occasionally asks a colleague with the same qualification to stand in for them would fit the criteria.
Who can apply?
Sole providers who hold Mountain Training or BMG qualifications and work within the scope of the individual qualifications held and are a member of an Association, the Mountain Training Association, Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI), British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML) or British Mountain Guides.
For the purpose of this scheme:
The weekend is aimed in particular at small businesses and sole traders and will cover all aspects of good practice in safety management from an independent provider’s perspective. It will also be useful for anyone in a position of responsibility for the safety management of their organisation.
There will be presentations on everything from setting up a business, the law and legislation, adequate and relevant insurance, contracts and technical support.
The operating procedures for your business and will include items such as late return policy, emergency procedures, risk assessments, recording and inspecting equipment. Mountain Training will provide you with templates and draft documents and advise you on how to ensure you have everything you need in place.
The workshop will be provided by Mike Rosser who is an Outdoor Training Consultant delivering courses and training World wide.
A qualified teacher, WMCI and IML with 45 years of personal experience of trekking, climbing and mountaineering worldwide. Mike has built a career around managing risk in the outdoors and teaching others those skills. 25 years as a teacher and lecturer of PE, Sport Science and Outdoor Education led to working for Mountain Training England as CEO and then, 15 years as a Manager Jagged Globe/Adventureworks organising mountaineering and trekking expeditions for adults and schools groups worldwide – from Everest to the jungles of Borneo.
For the past 10 years, Mike has worked as an Education Visits Advisor of Schools across N Wales and Inspector for the Adventuremark and Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) schemes.
He is a MTC Provider, Chair of the BMC Health and Safety Group, Director of the Mountain Training Trust and past Chair of Mountain Training Cymru of the Adventure Activities Industry Advisory Committee (AAIAC).
