This workshop will cover the fundamental elements of good teaching. A great opportunity to checklist your practice and add to your toolbox, and to provide ideas to stimulate reflection.
This session will explore teaching and learning within our role as instructors and leaders. it will explore how our approach needs to change as we facilitate a variety of groups and clients.
This workshop is suitable for All Mountain Training qualification holders and will cover;
- Creating and maintaining positive learning environments
- Effective communication with groups and individuals
- Adapting and individualising our teaching styles Task and goal identifying and setting
- Evaluative and reflective skills
There is now a greater emphasis on teaching and learning skills within Mountain Training qualifications and the skills are transferable to all that you do.
This workshop is particularly helpful to qualification holders who wish to upskill or develop their understanding of teaching and learning in alignment with the updated syllabi
This full day workshop will look at how we can maximise the teaching and learning opportunities. We will blend theory with practical sessions and plenty of activity to ensure that you take the most from the workshop. No matter if you introduce people to the outdoors through the Duke of Edinburghs award scheme, or develop independent climbers in a climbing wall, this workshop will have something for you.
We will look at: How we support learning to happen; Skill acquisition and development; Sensory preferences and how we present information; Generating effective feedback. All of these will be supported by activities and tasks that will support you to look at your practice and develop the effectiveness of your teaching and coaching of the participants you work with.

The workshop is being delivered by Dan Wilkinson an active WMCI and Foundation Coach, Mountain Leader and Hill skills course director, with a great deal of experience working on Mountain Training courses. Passionate about effective teaching and learning in the outdoor and adventure sport worlds, He has completed a MSc in Performance Coaching and Co-Authored ‘Coaching Adventure Sports’. He lives in Kendal with his wife and young family, who he really enjoys sharing the outdoors with.
