This navigation workshop will look at the best way to progress your skills to get ready for an assessment, refresh your skills and even pick up something new.
This workshop will focus on simplifying navigation strategies to enable you to choose the right navigation tool for the job. We’ll look at how to break a journey down, and discuss the specific techniques required to deal with navigating a particular route.
During the day we’ll look at a variety of navigation techniques, building on your existing skills to either help you towards assessment, or to refresh and consolidate if you are already qualified. These workshops will take place in terrain suitable for both ML and HML, and the workshop will run straight from Plas y Brenin.
It will include:
- Contour interpretation
- Familiarisation of the use of different scales of map
- Planning and executing navigation strategies
- Techniques to use in poor visibility

This workshop is being run by Cath Wilson who is a highly experienced and dedicated educationalist. Her decades of instructing in the mountains is underpinned by a formal teaching background. Cath focuses on the individual and she is committed and driven to helping people to reach their full potential.
Cath is an experienced Mountain Training course director for both the Hill and Moorland and Mountain Leader qualificaiton.
