This workshop will give you the knowledge to apply the principles underlying injury prevention, not included in the current coaching awards, in a practical, real world way.
It is made to be relevant and easy to apply in your daily work and will inform you about injury prevention in your own training and work as well.
Topics covered will be tailored to the attendees but can include:
What we know (and don't know)
Warming up – why we don’t need to pretend to be lizards
Doing the basics well – the missing link
Recovery – it’s an activity not just resting
You can’t go wrong getting strong!
Load management – keeping track of things – developing the skill in
young athletes through to experienced athletes
Autoregulation – teaching body literacy and your inner voice
Falling – falling down to warm up, teaching falling mechanics
Individualisation – female athletes, youth athletes, older athletes
Benchmarking – what to measure and why
Return to sport following injury – getting strong again is the easy part
Gadgets – are they worth it?
Considerations for training for trips
Making a comeback in later life, or from injury
Seasonal transitions and why they are normally badly handled,
especially in the UK
Injury prevention interventions that actually work
Deconditioning/reloading/peaking
Flexibility/technique
Please bring bouldering kit as the day will include some practical elements. Please note you will need to pay a wall entry fee on the day.
