Description

A hut to hut trek through the upper Lauterbrunnen valley and side valleys. The trek began and ended at Stechelberg 910m at the head of the Lauterbrunnen valley. we headed up through coniferous forests towards Gimmelwand, 1419m in overcast conditions before the rain began and we continued to the rotstockhutte at 2039m. we were the only guests and the week before the snow had prevented people getting there!! The next 3 days had glorious sunshine as we descended the Sefinental 1259m where we were treated to a display of Lady slipper orchids. we then ascended steeply to Busen 1978m before heading along the limestone valley towards ur second hut at Obersteinberg. 1778m. The third day we headed up into the valley towards Oberhoresee at 2065m, a crystal clear glacial lake - and very cold too!! We climbed a steep and snowy moraine to reach our third hut, an unmanned bivvy called Schmadrihutte, 2262m. After a lovely and pleasant night there accompanied by ibex we returned to the valley floor.
