Day 4 of WML training and Pete took us to Ben Rinnes. A gem of a hill. unfortunately it was more like summer walking lower down where we di a good deal of navigation practice. But higher up there were some great patches of snow to practice teaching each other, and Pete brought along 'mock client' for us to teach also. Great consolidation of a few days skills now putting into practice, giving each other feedback on our teaching skills. The summit of Ben Rinnes was icy and a great place for showing each other hoe to walk in crampons. Great sunset on the way down too.
Area :
Tomintoul to Banff (Morven)
East of Grantown-on-Spey and northeast of the A939 Old Military Road through Tomintoul sit a number of peaks above 600m. Some of the hills are part of the Cairngorms Nation Park and others lie outside its northeast border. Unfortunately none of them qualify for Munro status and the biggest stands at 871m (Morven) in the far southeast of the area.
