A group of friends and myself started several years ago climbing up Helvellyn in the middle of winter to cook bacon butties, sell any to anyone who was around and come back down. Bacon butty fest! Word got out and a lot of people wanted to join, mostly with no winter experience or kit, so between approx 15 of us we kitted up those who wanted to come, taught them the necessary skills and all walked up together, about 50 people in all, and ate bacon butties. Lots of people learned a great deal that day, learning from those of us who were taught by our friends over the years. It was nice to give back and remember where I have come from. Many had never used or seen a group shelter either and I do believe that the following day everyone went to buy one ha ha.
Very cold, kicked steps in over a section passing brown cove and taught others how to do the same.
Tried to turn people in wellies back to no avail.
