Description

Fourth week of lockdown & we continue to alternate local runs & walks along the Kelvin & Allander rivers & onto Blairskaith Moor, observing wildlife, plants and historical features as spring arrives. Coltsfoot is present in the verges and has been present for a week or more but I've only just positively identified it. The flower is present but not yet the leaves, hence the vernacular name 'son before father'. Also horsetail, displaying cones. Some of the Celandine are starting to look past their best. Leaves now appearing on Horse Chestnut. More prosaically, PB for the Blairskaith Quarry run down to 44m 35s on Monday. Yellowhammers on the Haughs, Bullfinch in the garden, Forget-me-nots and Germander Speedwell at Dougalston, Cowslip beyond Brian & Lesley's . Many trees now in leaf, including Larch. It's a while since I've seen Wigeon or Teal but the Shoveler are still there.
