Description

From Bamford to Bamford Edge, Bamford Moor, Stanage Edge End (West), High Neb Triangulation Pillar (458m), Stanage Pole (455m), Green's House, ending at Hathersage. Planning was accomplished using both the OS, OL 1 an Harvey Superwalker 1:25,000 maps. Was reminded at the start in Bamford, in planning future walks as a Leader, walk the territory as close in advance as possible. The planned ascent to Bamford Edge was via Bamford Clough, a direct route. Bamford Clough Trails are Closed until at least July 26, 2020, because of exposed cables. No alternate route was suggested. Planned a longer diversion on the spot, which added at least a half hour. Trekked North West along Bamford Edge, and then took a bearing East across Bamford Moor to Stanage Edge. Aimed at Crow's Chin Rocks while crossing Bamford Moor, the ascended Stanage Edge at Stanage End, then followed trail South along Edge. The weather was mostly clear and sunny. Both the Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) and Met Office weather forecasts called for Thunderstorms in the afternoon, so planned a shortened route back to Bamford if the clouds gave indication of an approaching storm. However, the storms stayed well to the West of Stanage Edge/Hathersage. Total TIme: 6 hours 42 minutes; Total Distance: 14.06 miles/22.39 km; Total Elevation Gain: 2,031 ft./792m.

Area : Dark Peak

Is situated between Sheffield and Manchester. The underlying rock is Millstone grit which is often exposed at the edge of the higher peat bogs for which the area is famous.
