Description

Doing another couple of walks for my book I had my youngest Alsatian with me. I used my 1:25000 OS map. We began from a car park by Torver Back Common (marked Delicars on the map) and headed SW beneath Anne Riggs to join a bridleway to the South over Tottle Bank. We headed up via Blawith Wood Bottom onto the summit of Beacon, before continuing Southwards to Beacon Tarn. We headed North from here to rejoin the bridleway over Tottle Bank and then followed a route by the disused reservoir at Plain Riggs. We walked to Mill Bridge where we saw a couple of deer, then headed up to the road at Beckstones, where we crossed and continued NW past Kelly Hall Tarn and onto Torver Back Common. We continued NW and where the path disappeared we navigated to the woods to the East to reach the lakeshore. We headed South from here and followed the Cumbria Way to Sunny Bank Pier. We turned West and followed the path back to the car park.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
