Description

This was another exploratory walk for my latest book of walks for people with larger dogs! I parked at High Cross near Hawkshead Hill and headed NW through Burnt Intake to head up to Tarn Hows. I followed the Eastern end of the lake then went North and then West to pass through Iron Keld Plantation. From there it was a simple walk up to Black Crag summit. I returned via the Western side of Tarn Hows and then back via Burnt Intake.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
