Description

This is another walk I was testing with my oldest Alsatian for my series of books, using the 1:25000 map. We began from Dalegarth railway station and headed to Boot, where we climbed North along a bridleway to some small outbuildings near Brown Band. We headed across the boggy moor to the West then SW to Bleatarn Hill, then descended to Blea Tarn and followed the wall to the South of Siney Tarn, passing Hollinghead Crag and Fell End. We turned left near the Outward Bound centre and crossed the railway line to Fisherground Farm, where we headed SE over a suspension bridge to turn left onto a bridleway. We continued to the East through woodland passing Dalegarth Hall and returned to the station via Annie's Wood.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

The Southern Fells Include Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England, occupy a broad area to the south of Great Langdale, Borrowdale and Wasdale. High and rocky towards the centre of the Lake District, the Southern Fells progressively take on a moorland character toward the south west. In the south east are the well known Furness Fells, their heavily quarried flanks rising above Coniston Water.
