PYB Scrambling - 5 Day Course: Day 2. From Ogwen Cottage up to Cwm Idwal. Scrambled up the face of the Gribben to Senior Ridge, along the ridge to the base of Glyder Fawr, down to Dog Lake, and off the ridge via Devils Kitchen and back down to Cwm Idwal and Ogwen Cottage. Group of 6, plus PYB Instructors Steve and Rich. On the way down Devils Kitchen we had one member of the group break an ankle. The only casualty of the week. Winds were gusting to 40mph, with driving rain. Ground underfoot (and the rocks) were wet and slippy. Ground away from rock was marshy. There had many continuous days of rain prior to the start of the course.
Start Time: 9:30AM. Back to Ogwen Cottage at 4:20PM - ~7 hours.
Elevation Gain 639m to elevation of 898m. Scrambling over rock from LLn Idwal and back down Devils Kitchen.

Area : Glyderau

The Glyderau (a Welsh plural form, also known in English as the Glyders) are a mountain group in Snowdonia, North Wales. The name derives from the highest peaks in the range, Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach. According to Sir Ifor Williams, the word "Glyder" derives from the Welsh word "Cludair", meaning a heap of stones.
