Mountains:⛰️ Red Screes
This two-day hike and wild camp with Nikki took us up Red Screes. Despite light rain throughout and moderate wind, the visibility remained good, allowing us to stay on course and enjoy the rugged scenery. We began our hike on 30th April, covering a total distance of 19.07 km with an ascent of 850 m. The weather conditions, though wet, added to the experience by testing our gear and endurance. We maintained a steady pace, averaging 3.67 kmph, with a moving speed of 4.57 kmph.We set up a wild camp in the valley below Red Screes, enduring the continuous rain, which added to the challenge of setting up and maintaining the camp. Despite the weather, the night in the wild was a great experience, enhancing our skills in managing and leading in less-than-ideal conditions. On the second day, we climbed to Red Screes and completed our descent, navigating the wet and slippery terrain safely back to our starting point. This Quality Mountain Day was marked by effective leadership, careful navigation, and the ability to manage adverse weather while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience in the mountains.
Area :
Far Eastern Fells
Reaching their highest point at High Street(828 metres) they occupy a broad area to the east of Ullswater and Kirkstone Pass. Much quieter than the central areas of Lakeland they offer in general easier but less exciting walking as the fells merge mainly into the surrounding moorlands. Exceptions however are the fine rock scenery to be seen surrounding the head of Haweswater
