Description

On 20th May 2022, I conducted a recce of the Lower Borrowdale Skyline in preparation for an upcoming fell race. The weather was ideal for the recce, with clear skies, no wind, and excellent visibility, allowing me to assess the route and terrain conditions accurately. The route covered 10.24 km with 664 meters of ascent, providing a good opportunity to evaluate the technical aspects of the course. Underfoot conditions were quite boggy in places, which could present a challenge during the race, particularly if wet weather continues. This recce was focused on providing technical advice for the race, identifying potential tricky sections, and ensuring a clear understanding of the course layout. The information gathered will be valuable for both race planning and participant preparation.

Area : The Howgills

The Howgill Fells are hills in Northern England between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, lying roughly in between the vertices of a triangle made by the towns of Sedbergh, Kirkby Stephen and Tebay.
