I led Jack Freeman on a 12-hour, 50-mile trek along the southern coast of the Isle of Man. The focus of this day was on endurance, carrying a full winter kit, and practicing leadership skills. The weather was typical for late December, with light rain and moderate wind, but visibility was good throughout. The day involved maintaining a steady pace over a long distance while managing kit and keeping the group motivated. We were joined by a friend for 20 miles, which added a social aspect to the trek and helped with morale. The most significant climbs came near the end of the day, starting with Bradda Hill (233 m), followed by Lhiattee ny Beinnee (301 m) and Cronk ny Arrey Laa (439 m). These final peaks provided a great opportunity to focus on energy management and pacing as fatigue set in.Navigation was straightforward, allowing me to concentrate on leadership and ensuring everyone stayed on track, both physically and mentally. This QMD was an excellent exercise in endurance and leadership, highlighting the importance of preparation and effective group management on long-distance treks.
