Refuge d'Ascu-Stagnu - Bergerie de Ballone
Today was a big day and we made an ascent of Monte Cinto, the highest point on Corsica. It's about a 2/2.5km detour from the main GR20 trail. We ground-dumped the packs and took only the essentials to push up to the summit.
The weather was hot and clear skies all day.
The descent to the refuge was tough. Steep and technical in some sections. Tough on the knees.
Before I left the refuge in the morning I had a welfare case with someone on the team and had to get him off the route and back home. Fortunately, I had a support team to call upon who dealt with this unfortunate situation.
