Working for Jagged Globe - 5 day mountaineering Course
8 clients
2 guides.
Day 1 -
Today would be the best day for weather out of the whole week, so we decided to do a big mountain day.
taking the stob coire nan lochan path, and branching of left at the basin of lochan up the left flank of gearr aonach and up to the summit of lochan.
I used the rope to safe guard one step. this was not a technical step in any way but the consequence of a slip could have caused injury.
Decent using the path down the right flank towards Aonach Dubh and back along the lochan path.
Day 2 - Buchaille Etive Beag
Very strong winds made for a very challenging ascent and only a few went to summit with me, the rest stayed at the col with one other guide.
we then build a shovel up and called the day slightly shorter.
Day 3 - Stob Ban
Really strong winds and light snow made visibility really difficult, half of the group descended at the col before the final ascent to stob ban. The wind made it very difficult to stand, which made it challenging but very interesting for the group that continued on. Careful safe guarding on the final 100m to the summit.
Day 4 - Meall a Bhuiridh
Very strong winds and no visibility, we walked from the ski centre due to the winds the chair lift was not working.
We spent the day picking our way up a rocky rib to the summit, due to the wind direction interestingly once on the summit the wind was hitting the summit wall and being pushed straight up leaving the summit in a bit of a wind eddy, which was perfect to allow us to summit.
I had one client on a rope, she was very nervous of the wind picking her up and even though a rope was not necessary it gave her the confidence.
Day 5 - Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag
Calmer weather with good views and 23mph winds making it a brilliant way to end the week.
Ascending up the nid ridge, good snow conditions made this a fairly straight forward and easy ascent even in the steeper ground. The group broke into 2 groups and i took 4 participants to aonoch beag.
