Description

Peaks Crossed:
Knock Fell (794 m)
Little Dun Fell (842 m)
Cross Fell (893 m)

Weather: Heavy Snow, High Winds, Torrential Rain in Lower Areas.

This leg included the notorious Cross Fell, the highest point of the Pennines. The conditions were incredibly harsh, with heavy snow and high winds making navigation extremely difficult and we all needed our snow goggles to actually see anything. We were all exhausted by the time we actually reached Cross fell and decided to take a break in Greggs hut (we had previously decided to miss it out and press on to Alston), We replenished with hot chocolate and spicy noodles at the Greggs hut bothey before heading out and onwards to Alston. As we got into the lower land the snow turned to torrential rain. This made the urgency to get to the Alston YHA even more important as we were all absolutely freezing cold. We pressed on and eventually made it to the YHA in Alston, where we were greeted with hot food, a shower and a Bed.

Area : Pennines
