This workshop will introduce the Be Avalanche Aware guidelines and how to incorporate them into every day practice. The focus will be on planning to avoid avalanche hazard. We will look at how winter weather and snow conditions influence avalanche hazard. Detailed information from weather and avalanche forecasts and appraisal of our own personal skills and knowledge will help us to identify safe terrain and plan for a mountain journey. We will then monitor the weather and conditions on our journey, address any human factor influence, including heuristic traps and identify how terrain influences avalanche hazard. At key times and places we will address the options and strategies we have to avoid avalanche hazard on the mountain.
