WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Weaselling, Ferreting and other names exist, either way it is about the exploring of rocks through squeezes, scrambles, crawls, fidgets, squirms and many other fantastic words. These challenges amongst the rocks are not only great for wet weather days, but they are also fantastic for coaching and developing climbers in a fun arena away from the lofty heights of planned climbs. It isn’t just for kids, but we may need to adjust our planning to make it more appropriate to our client group, but regardless of age, it goes down really well.
Yorkshire has an abundance of weaselling venues, including Ilkley Rocky Valley, Ilkley Cow & Calf, Brimham Rocks and others, but other great venues exist across the UK. We will be based at probably the regions best venue, Brimham Rocks. A great imagination, and an adventurous mind will be developed further over the day, with lots of tools and ideas to take away for groups in the future. How to manage risks, and where to draw the line. Is it still weaselling or have we strayed in to bouldering?
Greater understanding of how weaselling can be incorporated into more aspects of our work as climbers with the right equipment, and how it can be used to coach technique. How we can still run an effective session that is fun and engaging, but also a great warm up prior to our climbing. Manage risk associated with our day and expectations of the group, and how to plan an effective and fun session.
