The day will be facilitated and led by James Thacker, an internationally qualified IFMGA Mountain Guide and member of the British Mountain Guides.
About the Programme
Summer or winter, activities in the mountains are delivered by people. Professionals who make sure that things go well the vast majority of the time, even when faced with changeable weather and conditions. Competency and experience aside the mountains remain a potentially risky place to work, and MTS Provider course staff have an essential role to play when it comes to enhancing safety and training others.
Integrating Non-technical Skills for MTS Provider staff - This workshop is aimed at MTS Provider staff (Course Directors, Tutors, trainers and assessors) who would like to integrate Non-technical Skills into their course delivery. These are the social and cognitive skills that we use alongside our technical mountaineering skills for optimum performance. Topics such as situational awareness, decision-making, leadership, teamwork, communication, and task management all of which also complement and add depth to the Mountain Training leadership and decision-making model.
We will look at some of these skills around technical tasks that we will be familiar with as providers. In addition, we will also explore the concept of Threat and Error Management (TEM) and how this may be used to support decision making in the outdoor environment.
