Intro Day: ML and HML Skills for Trainees

06/04/2024 - 06/04/2024

Bowden Bridge Car Park, Hayfield

Bookings start from £0.00

About

This event is intended for candidates in the early and consolidation phases of their hill or mountain leadership journey.

The meeting point is Bowden Bridge car park, but there is some parking on the roadside on Kinder Road.

We shall have a full day on Kinder in the Peak District.  A great deal of attention will be paid to navigation, but other aspects of the syllabuses will be touched on, such as group leadership, access and environment, and emergency procedures.  Emphasis will be on hands-on involvement, and the sharing of experience and skills.  Whether you are new to MT, or part way along the journey to assessment, you should have something to contribute and something to take away from the day.

We will not be touching on ropework, which of its nature requires expert tuition.

This is a peer led day, but will be facilitated by experienced ML members of MTA.

Again, as always on a peer led day, you will be responsible for your own safety and wellbeing.  You should disclose any medical issues we should be aware of, and bring your own first aid kit, along with any meds you need.

The weather in early April could be wintry or warm and pleasant, and anything in between.  Check the weather, and decide accordingly what waterproofs, layers of clothing, food, drink and equipment you should bring.  We can talk about your choices as part of the day.

You will need the OS Explorer map OL1 (Dark Peak), and a base plate compass.

At the end of the day, I would like to encourage people to gather at the nearby Sportsman pub, to chat through the day's experiences, and discuss what events you would like Peak Region to organise, and what you can contribute.  And we will explain the work of the Compass Crew group in providing a community of mutual support, who share plans for QMDs, days out, gossip, info, encouragement and so forth.

If you book on and find you can't come, please be sure to cancel your booking or let Stephen know (contact details on this page).
