What's the purpose of the day?
You've all heard of this pivotal event in our struggle to be allowed to walk through wild country, and now you too can feel part of that amazing day.
With the aid of story and photographs, we will walk the exact route of the trespass, so far as it can be reconstructed. We will share the anxieties and passions of that distant time, living under the shadow of the Depression, ill at ease as Communism and Fascism threatened the old order, and deeply conservative landowners tried to close down working-class access to their lands.
And as we think with concern about the latest post-Covid developments which are again threatening the Right to Roam, we will feel the ghostly presence of those heroic lads and lasses of long ago, silently watching us to see how well we are defending their legacy ninety years on.
Kit
We will be going up onto the moor, so bring suitable kit for a full autumn day on the hill. As a minimum, bring waterproofs, spare layers, food and water, and your own first aid kit with any personal meds you need - as always with peer-led events, you are responsible for your own well-being and safety. If you have any medical conditions we ought to know about, please tell us.
